Implement 3D design, robotics and innovation in this fun competition run by Makers Empire and HP Robots Otto.
For those of you new to Makers Empire, it is the world’s most fun and easy-to-use 3D design app for students.
It’s available for free to students and educators, and can be downloaded for many different devices.
This competition challenges you to design your own 3D printable remix mod, expansion, or accessory for the iconic Otto robot.
Create functional upgrades, fun themed characters, or clever modular add-ons that keep Otto’s signature charm and style while pushing creative and functional limits. From new mechanisms to themed skins, anything goes, as long as it’s 3D printable and Otto-inspired.
You do not need to purchase an Otto kit to participate.
However HP Robots have exclusive discount codes for this competition.
EU participants: 25% off the regular EUR price (incl. VAT) + free shipping. Use discount code CONTEST at checkout.
Non-EU participants: 30% off the regular USD (excl. VAT) + standard shipping. Use discount code CONTESTUS at checkout.
Otherwise, all you need is creativity and innovation! Premade HP Robots shape pack files and templates exist in Makers Empire so you don’t have to start from scratch. Participants can simply use the HP Robots shape pack parts in the Shaper Editor to craft a design that’s functional and innovative.
Let’s see your best Otto remix!
Otto began as an open-source robot project designed to help people learn through hands-on building, coding, and creating.
Over time, it has grown into the modular HP Robots platform that supports accessories, add-ons, and custom upgrades.
Makers Empire shares Otto’s mission of fostering creativity, design thinking and innovation in the classroom. A key goal of Makers Empire is to integrate more 3D design and 3D printing into schools. Since Otto is primarily 3D-printed, the collaboration was a natural fit.
With Makers Empire’s software, students can easily customize Otto’s 3D-printable parts and bring their unique designs to life. Together, HP Otto and Makers Empire provide a seamless solution for educators to combine robotics, design thinking, and 3D printing in classrooms worldwide.
