About the project

This Make a Difference Challenge Course introduces the concept of Social Enterprise and explores ways in which businesses work with charitable organisations to make a difference. Students are guided through the Design Thinking process as they learn about how designers develop products for sale. Students respond to video content by participating in in-app quizzes and design tutorials related to the information shared. The Challenge Course concludes with a design thinking project in which students are asked to design a product for sale, to raise money and awareness for a charitable organisation or cause.

What did you most like about the Make A Difference managed project? “The timeframe to be able to work on the managed project work well within the classroom context during Term 4, which is relatively the busiest term of the year.”

What types of learning outcomes did you observe during the Make A Difference managed project? “Student collaboration, independent learning, problem solving and the ability to gain a greater understanding of the core concepts of the managed project.”

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us? “The managed project format is a great process for all participating in it (teachers & students). Thank you for presenting this format for teachers to engage with as they embrace the capabilities of design thinking and additive manufacturing so that they can enhance student learning opportunities within the classroom environments.”

What did you most like about the Make A Difference managed project? “I like the set up of the challenge course with the inclusion of videos, quizzes and the hands on tasks that allowed students to learn new skills prior to creating their own designs.”

What types of learning outcomes did you observe during the Make A Difference managed project? “Once we stopped and slowed down I observed students engaging more with using skills in Makers Empire, not just using already made shapes. The main focus was on “Develop project plans that include consideration of resources when making designed solutions individually and collaboratively (ACTDEP028).”

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us? “Thank you for creating these challenge courses. I am looking forward to participating in more in the coming year.”
