March 8 is International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is a time to ‘celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities’.
International Women’s Day was started by the women who fought for equal voting rights in the early 1900s. Since then, the UN has used the Day to support and celebrate women who are changing the world in many different ways.
The theme this year is ‘Think equal, build smart, innovate for change’. We can be inspired by women who are working with new ideas and new technologies to make the world a better place.

Research a woman who has made a positive change in your country, in the past or present. What did she do? How did this make a positive change?
Design a model for a statue to be placed in your school in memory of her great work. A life-like statue of the woman is not practical to design in Maker’s Empire, so you need to be creative! Will you choose an object related to her work? Or perhaps a symbol of how she made people feel?
This task must be done in teams of 3-5. Your teacher will help you organise into groups. Vote for a team leader who will submit your design to Maker’s Empire on behalf of your team.
