Bringing Stories to Life with 3D Printing: What’s in a Story? Challenge Course

At Makers Empire, we love seeing how teachers and students use our Online Managed Projects to spark creativity, problem-solving and storytelling in the classroom. Recently, primary school teacher, Kirstie, shared some incredible student work from our What’s in a Story Challenge Course, and we couldn’t resist showcasing it!

This Challenge Course invites students to explore the art of storytelling while connecting it to the design process. Students are inspired to design a character or setting that helps to tell a story of their own creation or retells one of their favourites. These six and seven year olds from a primary school in South Australia wrote their own story books and then designed and 3D printed their characters.

The results were nothing short of inspiring. Each book told a unique story, brought to life by the 3D-printed characters they designed themselves.

  • “The students wrote their own books and 3D printed their characters. I was so impressed with what 6 and 7 year-olds could produce having never used the laptops at school.” Kirstie Beaumont-Holmes

This example highlights how Makers Empire Challenge Courses help teachers deliver rich, cross-curricular learning experiences. In What’s in a Story, literacy, design thinking and technology come together to help students:

  • Build creativity and confidence as designers and storytellers
  • Develop digital and design technologies skills
  • Strengthen literacy by writing stories that connect to their 3D designs
  • See the tangible link between imagination and making

The pride and joy on the children’s faces says it all. Projects like this not only nurture creativity and digital skills but also show students that their ideas matter and their stories are worth telling and sharing.

We are so proud of what these young creators achieved and we can’t wait to see the next chapters they’ll dream up.
